December 19th 2011, after three weeks of planning and a lot of hard work over one hundred volunteers met at a local church. The goal on this night was to bring Joy and Happiness to those without in “Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside”. “THERE WERE NO LOCAL CELEBRITIES NO LOCAL NEWS COVERAGE AT THIS EVENT AND NO ONE WAS PAID FOR THE EFFORT” If you ask me no one seemed to give a flying F#&K What we did have was a group of people for the sixth year in a row gather together and organize a very special event, Over “One Thousand People” were served up Hot Turkey Dinner, Sandwiches, Pop, Water, Bananas, Apples, Oranges, Chocolates, Wrapped Gifts, Donuts, Coffee, and Clothing. Now here is where it gets interesting, not only was there a high percentage of “Recovering Drug Addicts” involved in this event, but at least forty have done hard time in the Downtown Eastside and have turned there lives around. On top of that at least seventy of those who attended live in the community of “Surrey”. Five different “Recovery Houses” were involved on this overcast night and the smiles were flowing like a river. I myself asked the question more than once “Who was having the most joy the people serving or the people receiving?” Giving back is the foundation for change for those of us who have suffered from the “Curse Of Addiction” and the more we can do for our fellow man the better On a personal note as someone who has suffered, ten years ago I couldn’t feed or take care of myself and now for the last several years I have been a part of feeding thousands as the founder and director of the “Servant’s of Hope”. At this time i would first like to thank God, the men of Servant House, my good friends Richard, Donny and Rob; my church and many others who with their support made this event possible Sean

The producers of this short film are both recovering addicts who have both spent time living and indulging with drug addiction in Vancouverâs Downtown Eastside. Today they are both clean and sober with multiple years of recovery The reasons for the making of this film are many, one being educational the other sharing with those who have suffered, this is a view of what life can be like in addiction and how extreme addiction can be The video was shot entirely in the downtown eastside it is a compilation of two years work with a variety of themes.We hope that by watching this work people will get a better understanding from a real perspective of what can happen to anyone who may slip through the cracks of society and end up with a drug problem. Some of the material may seem to be offensive or extreme but our experience has taught us that you cannot sugar coat a disease. If our work will deter any single individual from this horrendous lifestyle we feel our goal has been accomplished At this time I’d like o point out that we have had no formal training in video photo editing producing or directing this project ran both on emotion and desire to carry a message from our perspective. My good friends Bobby and Deanna are truly a miracle they both met in there addiction to Crack and Heroin in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside today they have “BEEN CLEAN AND SOBER FOR OVER EIGHT YEARS” They are now getting “MARRIED ” ON JULY 31/2011 Both there lives are a incredible testimonies of the human spirit and humility something that is very necessary to escape the grip and terror of addiction. They have worked so hard in both each others as well many other peoples lives to make a difference it’s truly been a blessing to me to see how they have changed, so for any one who doesn’t believe that miracles can happen here is a story that continues to be made. Deanna now works full time in the Downtown Eastside as a outreach worker and Bobby Has been steadily employed for the last seven years that’s right in stead of being a burden to society these two people are now truly making a huge difference in many lives “SO LET ME SUM IT UP FOR YOU” From a life of pain suffering and depravity grinding out a daily existence in there addiction to now becoming respectable taxpaying members of society, in my personal opinion these two individuals definitely qualify for the courage to come back award. Please take a moment and take a close look at the before and after photo’s and see the extreme change that is truly visible in both of there lives today

Hi my name is Marty my three sister have been lost in eastside van now going on 14 years i have been down a few times to look for them but have not found them, i have talked on accassion in the last 14 years with them but recently two of them died in less than two week i have been trying to get updated pictures of them because we have none, on this video of yours you have one of my sister that passed (wege), 4:50 to 4:58 babs was my other sister and lana is the only one left they usually where together 24-7, so i was very surprized to see wege, not sure if you remember her or not but i sure would like a copy of that picture if you dont mind my email address is marty. sasktel.net,

wege was from regina sk, all of my sister are from thier, we had a hard childhood but did the best we could i manged to stay away from the drug scene only because i was gifted in sports and found a way to stay out of trouble and finnish school, I am now working for the Gov of Sask

VANCOUVER CITY OF ADDICTION The dtes is a melting pot of people from all walks, the addiction scourge that exists there will continue to grow as long as the support for this lifestyle is supported by so called harm reduction policies. Safe injection clean needles i agree with for health and potential overdoses. The fact that the vpd will not charge you for possession makes this part of town a freeway to hell. The so called four pillars approach should add another pillar the fact that insite has over seven thousand registered iv users and the estimated number of people in active addiction is said to be some ten thousand in a twelve square block area means that all these addict’s have a habit to support and drug’s to buy. To me the fifth pillar seems to be let the drug dealers do what they want. The amount of arrest’s for trafficking does not add up compared to consumption how do i know you ask well let me tell from a personal observation over the last five years. I walk and or drive through this area of town daily and it seems that the same drug dealer’s set up shop at the same locations daily i have never seen them arrested the seem to be untouchable so in conclusion i say the fifth pillar must be to supply the four. You can get heroin, cocaine ,crack, rx, weed, twenty four seven in this part of town at many well known places. People from across the city as well the country migrate here to the addiction capital of north America knowing that it’s a free for all.
